Health Conditions That Make Mommy May Not Breastfeed Babies

Breastfeeding is very beneficial for both mother and baby. Therefore experts recommend exclusive breastfeeding for your baby during the first six months of a baby's life.
Although breast milk is an important nutrient for infants, there are a number of conditions that cause mothers to be unable or should not breastfeed their children. This is because it is possible that the mother cannot produce a healthy supply of breast milk.
Mothers are required to take medication or undergo medical treatment routinely which makes this situation unsafe during breastfeeding.

 1. Having HIV mother should not breastfeed
Generally contraindicated breastfeeding ie in mothers infected with HIV in developed countries. A mother suffering from HIV can transmit the virus to her child through breast milk while breastfeeding. Because there is no medicine, a mother should not breastfeed if she has HIV.

 2. Active Tuberculosis Infection Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection in the lungs. This disease is transmitted through breathing, not by breastfeeding or breast milk. However, a mother can give active TB to a child through coughing, sneezing, and touching. When a mother has active TB, but her baby does not, she should not have close contact with her child and therefore may not breastfeed. However, because TB is not transmitted through breast milk, a baby can receive pumped breast milk.
